There are so many “experts” in the online marketing field. Is choosing a Certified Search Marketing Specialist important when hiring someone to help you with your SEO (search engine optimization)? Does a certification make a difference? In a word … Yes.

What’s the difference between a CPA and a bookkeeper who does your accounting?
This isn’t a riddle or trick question. Rather, I ask it to illustrate a point. So let’s define those differences.
CPA stands for Certified Public Accountant. They’ve had to pass a rigorous exam to prove their expertise and earn that certification. They’re held to high ethical standards.
A bookkeeper, on the other hand, can be just about anybody with the knowledge and skill.
A bookkeeper may do a fine job for you on the routine, day-to-day/monthly tasks, but when it comes time to file your official taxes, you probably want official expertise. You go to the certified expert because it’s easier to trust knowledge and expertise when it’s been tested.
The same holds true with who hire to help you with your online marketing, especially the ever-changing practice area of SEO and search marketing.
And this is why I’m excited to have recently sat for and passed the exam to earn my Digital Marketer certification for Search Marketing.
